Keeping Peachland’s Small-Town Character as We Grow
Peachland is going to change. The challenge is making sure we don’t lose what makes people want to live here in the first place.
When people talk about Peachland’s “small-town character,” I don’t think they mean stopping growth or trying to keep everything exactly as it is today.
To me, it means knowing your neighbours, supporting local businesses, seeing families at the park, enjoying our waterfront, volunteering in the community and feeling connected to the place we call home.
Growth can actually help protect some of those things — if we manage it well.
I would like to see more young families able to make Peachland their home. More children in our school. More customers supporting our local businesses. More housing choices for seniors who want to remain in the community as their needs change.
At the same time, growth has to respect our infrastructure, our environment and the character of our neighbourhoods. Bigger isn't automatically better.
The goal should be a stronger Peachland, not simply a bigger Peachland.
That means making thoughtful decisions about development, protecting the things that make our community special and remembering that Peachland isn't just a collection of buildings and roads.
It's the people who make this a community.
And as Peachland grows, I want to make sure we don't lose sight of that.
